Inside Ted Bundy’s Real-Life Relationship with Elizabeth Kloepfer

Extremely Angry, Shocking Angry and Vile, about Bundy’s affair with Elizabeth clover, now on Netflix, but the real story is even Wilder.
Friday on Netflix, the premiere of the film “Extremely wicked, shockingly evil and vile”, Thriller, Joe Berlinger based on real, about a five-year affair Elizabeth Klaver, Ted Bundy. Kloepfer, played by Lily Collins, is a single mother living in Seattle in 1969 when she first meets Bundy ( Zac Efron) at a bar and starts Dating him. He seems to be the perfect husband and father figure for her little family – ready to cook dinner and help take care of her daughter, even if he sometimes has to borrow money. But when in 1974 begins a frightening murder, and the police are starting to publish details about the suspect, who is considered a handsome, well-dressed man named “Ted” who drives a “Beetle Volkswagen”, Klopfer begins to suspect her of Ted, all of a sudden, to explore moments of her relationships, which in this new context, becoming a frightening value.

Light spoilers ahead for those who haven’t seen Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile yet.

In Klepfer’s memoirs, after she begins to hear details about the suspect’s modus operandi in the murder, she begins to recall small coincidences that seem to link him to her own Ted. Police describe the suspect as sometimes acting wounded to lure his victims and help him get back to his car. Klepfer recalls that while looking through her boyfriend’s apartment, she once found “Plaster of Paris”, which he stole from the medical company where he once worked. Another time, she noticed a pair of crutches in his apartment that he said was his master. Another time when she was chasing her, she put her hand under his car seat to find something she had dropped, only to discover the ax. She was scared, but Bundy explained it so easily – he needed to cut down a tree for his parents – that she brushed him off at the moment.

Klepfer had contacted the police several times with these details, but since Bundy had no prior criminal record, Seattle authorities did not seem to consider him a serious suspect. Clover also told them of the habit Bundy to steal from television to textbooks. When the officer asked if Bundy could have a reason to want to hurt women, she told them he was born illegitimate – and consoled her mother’s resentment for never telling him the truth about his father.

It wasn’t until 1975, after Bundy moved to Utah to study law, that he was arrested for speeding and arrest. His car contained what seemed to be guns stolen crowbar, handcuffs, rope, a ski mask, another mask made from pantyhose. But in conversation with Clipfrom, he gave more than a quick and simple explanation of the items – telling her that she’s wearing tights, for example, under a ski mask when he shovels snow. By this time Bundy and Clover sold several times; she was ready for marriage and upset that Bundy was so far away, shabby, and judging by the fact that the Driver was going, saw other women. Even though they weren’t officially a couple, Bundy still occasionally declared his love for her in phone calls and letters. And when Bundy was tried in Utah in 1976 for attempted kidnapping and assault,

In the “Extremely evil”, “Shockingly evil, and vile”, and also in the real lives of Klopfer pursues and pursues the murder mystery Bundy women, which she read. In this film, Klopfer eventually visits the Bundy on death row and finally closes the question of the guilt Bundy in the result of pursuing a face-to-face, which I won’t spoil here.

In real life, however, the chilling closure at the Clover was different – on the phone. It was February 1978. Last December, Bundy made his second prison break from Colorado by climbing through the ceiling of his cell. Clover, there was no way to know where is Bundy, but when January came to the news that Florida was brutally murdered two nursing sisters, from Clover was “ominous feeling” that Bundy is in the state. Bundy, then one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives, was arrested for driving a stolen car. Once in custody, Bundy made a deal with the officers – who, it seemed, had not realized that they had arrested a serial killer for a phone call, and in a panic dialed Kloepfer.

“This is bad,’ he said, according to the memoirs of Klopfer, very bad when tomorrow breaks. I want you to be ready. It can be really terrible.

Klopfer asked whether he was a suspect in the killings of partners – at the time he did not know that Bundy killed a 12-year-old girl, the same age as the daughter of Kloepfer.

“I wish we could sit down. , alone . “and talk about things,” Bundy told her, ” without listening to anyone. “about why I am who I am.”

When Clopper demanded details from Bundi, he got angry and distracted by the conversation. But a week later, Bundy called again. “I want to talk about… what we talked about on Thursday,” he said, according to the memoirs.

“About being sick?” asked Clover.

“Yes,” said Bundy. “I was afraid you wouldn’t have anything to do with me if I told you.” During the conversation, he explained that something was wrong inside him builds strength.

The chauffeur asked if he had ever thought of killing her. After a long silence, he admitted that one night he felt it was happening when he stayed in her apartment. “I closed the flap so the smoke wouldn’t go up the chimney,” Bundy told her. “And then I left and put a towel in the crack under the door to keep the smoke in the apartment.”

Klepfer remembered that night: she woke up because she couldn’t breathe, in an apartment filled with smoke, and ran to open the Windows. “I almost didn’t believe him,” wrote Clover. “It didn’t match the murders. I thought maybe he didn’t want to talk about any more serious attempts to kill me.

Klopfer asked him did he use it to “touch to reality” after the murders. By then, she was obsessively going through her calendar to find out if she was with Bundy at the time of the murders. She realized that sometimes Bundy spoke to her only a few hours before or after he killed again. for demanded details from Bundy, he got angry and distracted conversation.
