LOS ANGELES: Robert Pattinson was chosen as the new Batman, beating several other actors, including Nicholas Holt, to play in Caped Crusader, Variety reported Friday.
A 33-year-old twilight smoothie is going to play the superhero vigilante in a separate film called “Batman” under the direction of Matt Reeves, who was behind the last two sequels of “Planet of the Apes”, writes entertainment magazine.
Filming is scheduled to begin in the coming months, with a release date expected in June 2021.
A spokesman for Warner Bros. did not confirm the AFP news, saying only, “I can confirm that we are negotiating.” Pattinson’s agent did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Pattinson, who gained fame as a teenage vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga, in recent years, avoided attention, turning from a teenage heartthrob into an indie dear.
He recently starred in the sci-fi puzzle High Life of French Director Claire Denis, which earned him critical acclaim. He also starred in the lighthouse, a dark fantasy horror film that was also well received at this year’s Cannes film festival.
In the role of Batman, Pattinson will replace Ben Affleck, who left the role after playing Bruce Wayne in Batman V Superman: Dawn of justice 2016 and the Justice League 2017.
