Celebrities and brands could get sensitive information from a server filled with details that were not password protected.
The personal information of millions of Instagram influencers has been found in an online database.
The information was stored on a server without password protection, making it vulnerable and accessible to all.
TechCrunch reported that it contains over 49 million records, including information such as email addresses and phone numbers of Instagram users.
The report says that most of the accounts were owned by influencers, celebrities, and brands and were linked to the Indian marketing company Chtrbox.
The Instagram representative said: “We are investigating the question of how wrong any third party stored data Instagram, in violation of our rules.
“It’s also not clear if the phone numbers and emails in the Chatterbox database came from Instagram.
“In any case, the possibility that third parties will incorrectly process user data is something we take seriously, so we’re working quickly to understand what happened.”
The database was temporarily disabled when it was discovered. The firm did not comment on the incident.
Chatterbox calls itself “the leading platform for brands to find and collaborate with all kinds of talented influencers in India.” participating, the possibility that third parties will incorrectly process user data is something we take seriously, so we’re working quickly to understand what happened.”
